Sleeps 8 - With its inspirational setting, this cottage is not just by the sea, it is in the sea. Situated in arguably the finest location in the picturesque fishing village of Pittenweem, this refitted 18th century cottage has been transformed into perfect holiday accommodation for a party of up to 8.

House on the Rock has a magnificent coastal setting on the harbour of old Pittenweem, one of the most charming fishing villages in the East Neuk of Fife. The house is set on the rocks overlooking the Firth of Forth and enjoys spectacular south-facing views out across the water towards the Bass Rock and North Berwick beyond.

Totally refurbished during 2012 and new bathrooms and soft furnishings in 2018, the cottage offers a remarkable lounge with south facing windows, breath-taking views to the south, west and east, across the lapping waves of the Forth. There is one double bedroom and two twin bedded rooms, all with en suite facilities and a further spacious attic twin room. A luxury kitchen has been newly installed and there is a separate dining room to relax over dinner after a day spent enjoying the East Neuk of Fife equipped with a wood-burning stove.

The renovations have been carried out sympathetically maintaining many original features while incorporating life’s little luxuries.

Tucked into a corner of the east coast of Scotland between St Andrews and Edinburgh, the East Neuk of Fife is one of Scotland's most beautiful regions. It has a character all its own, attracting artists by the thousands to its unique combination of history, sea, farmland and beaches, its picturesque fishing villages with their Dutch-style houses and its world famous golf courses. There is so much to do here for the whole family, from kayaking to horseriding, and yet there is great peace here too. In the summer, flowers line the hedgerows and the fields are rich with crops while fishing boats bob in the sea. It's a perfect place to relax, to eat well, and to recharge the batteries. Eight coastal villages comprise the East Neuk - each with its own special character.

Pittenweem - its name is Gaelic for 'place of the cave' - is a working fishing port, its busy harbour being the main landing point for the daily catch. It is a small village of some 1500 inhabitants, with a history not just of fishing and trading but of art too. In August over 100 artists exhibit at the annual Pittenweem Arts Festival and over 30 artists make their permanent home here. The village is blissfully situated, white houses with red pantiled roofs tumbling down to harbour and spreading up and beyond to the fields above. It is situated between Anstruther with its bustling harbour, the Fisheries Museum, supermarkets, various shops and renowned restaurants and the quieter village of St Monans, home to an excellent fish restaurant.

Pittenweem is a very well stocked village with a butchers, bakers, chemists, hairdresser, fish and chips shop (many think it's the best on the coast), a few pubs, the wonderful Cocoa Tree chocolate and teashop, the Heron bistro on the High Street, and the new Pittenweem Inn on the outskirts. This is a haven for art lovers, for foodies, and for those who simply want to enjoy the unique atmosphere of an historic village - you can still visit the cave that once housed a hermit and gave the village its name. This area is particularly attractive to golfers of course - there are some wonderful courses within half an hour: Anstruther (1 miles away, its club house provides an excellent lunch), Balcomie Links at Crail, Elie, Balbirnie Park, Kingsbarns, Scotscraig, Charleton, Lundin Links and Carnoustie where the 2007 Open took place and of course there is St Andrews, just 15 minutes away and its historic courses.

The accommodation comprises:-

Main entrance hall which leads onto the L-shaped kitchen with integrated appliances including an induction cooker, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.

Adjacent to this is the dining room which has laminate flooring and a lovely wood-burning stove, perfect for keeping cosy in the winter months. The dining table has seating for 9.

A spiral staircase leads up from the dining room to the first floor lounge with plenty of comfortable seating and a TV with Freeview. It features windows on 3 aspects with particularly stunning views to the south.

Bedroom 1 is a twin bedroom on the ground floor - it boasts a window seat and ample storage space in the form of built-in wardrobes. There is also an en-suite bathroom with WC, wash hand basin and shower.

Bedroom 2 is a room with a double bed on the first floor and can be accessed from the lounge. It has exposed ceiling beams (a lovely feature), fitted shelves and a tiled fireplace. It has an en-suite with bath and overhead shower, WC and wash hand basin.

Again, it has its own en-suite with a double shower compartment with electric shower and mixer shower valve, WC and wash hand basin.

Bedroom 4 is in the loft and is an airy twin bedroom with velux windows letting in plenty of light. The utility room with washer and drier is also on this level. The attic room also has an en-suite wc and sink in the utility room.
